Take
Action on Global Warming and the ICC
Join us for rallies in Annapolis and Arlington
this Saturday
Please join
us on Saturday for two global warming rallies,
part of the National Day of Action. We are co-sponsoring these
events in
Arlington and Annapolis with
the Sierra Club and Audubon Naturalist Society, two of our coalition
members. Details are below.
Speaking
out for smart growth and transit-oriented development in the
Washington, DC, region has never been so important. The
Chesapeake Bay region will be particularly affected by rising
sea levels and changing weather patterns. The good news
is that we each can take action from changing light-bulbs and
increasing the energy efficiency of our homes, to supporting
smart growth solutions. Buildings
and transportation account for the vast majority of energy use
and CO2 emissions. More opportunities to live in green,
energy efficient buildings in neighborhoods with convenient walking,
bicycling and transit options will make the difference.
These rallies
are a great opportunity to get
the attention of our elected officials, spread the word about
smart growth, focus on transit instead of the ICC, and learn
about how you as an individual can make a difference. The rallies
will also feature speakers (including an Arctic explorer), live
music, and free energy-saving lightbulbs. Take transit, carpool,
walk, or bike to the rallies!
We hope to
see you there -- and please stay tuned for more on the global
warming-smart growth solutions connection. In the meantime, let
us know what you think.
