Chris Orvin is deeply engaged in the development of a grassroots movement for smart growth in Fairfax County. Using traditional outreach techniques and leveraging online community-building tools, he hopes to strengthen the Coalition’s presence on the ground in this large and important county. He believes that real change can only happen when communities are organized, educated and stand up for the issues that affect them.
Having witnessed first-hand the traffic congestion, environmental degradation and loss of culture from uncontrolled development in his hometown of Charleston, South Carolina, Chris feels passionately about smart growth and revitalizing our urban centers. His previous experience in community development ranges from his two-year service in rural Panama with the Peace Corps to a stint in South Carolina with the Obama campaign during the Democratic primary.
