Alexandria is updating its transportation plan. Recommendations from a three-year citizens' task force emphasize the need to provide alternatives to driving by investing in new rail and bus transit lines and "complete streets" with bike lanes, sidewalks and safe crossings.
With Alexandria's main roadways saturated with through-traffic, it will be important for Fairfax and Prince George's counties to provide bus and rail transit options for their residents. Alexandrians also need north-south and east-west transit options. On-street bike lanes complemented by off-street trails will serve the growing number of bicycle commuters.
