Arlington's transit-oriented development (TOD) policies began in the 1970's when they helped fund Metro underground in the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor instead of the middle of I-66. Recent analysis shows that Arlington added 30 million square feet of development on just 7.6 percent of its land with little to no increase in traffic.
