In Fall 2008, the Fairfax Board of Supervisors will take a historic vote that could transform Tysons Corner from a traffic-choked, disconnected patchwork of office parks to a lively, walkable place to live, work, and play. Modeled after Arlington’s success, the vision for Tysons focuses development at the four proposed Metro stations and new transit circulators while protecting adjacent neighborhoods.
Done well, an urban, transit-oriented Tysons will reduce growth in traffic, provide more transportation and housing options, enhance property values in surrounding neighborhoods, reduce reliance on residential property taxes for services, and protect the region’s environment.
We’ve monitored the official Tysons Task Force throughout the process and will review their draft plan when it is released in the coming weeks. We’ll let you know what we think.
We have joined with local residents in Citizens for a Sustainable Tysons to promote and win a vision for green Tysons Corner that offers a “low carbon” lifestyle, complete with green buildings and street design, stormwater management, and excellent walking and transit options.
