Outreach and Program Support Internship
Work in a fun, fast-paced small non-profit with energetic, talented professionals. You’ll take ownership of exciting outreach events and support staff on a range of program and fundraising projects. Learn how a non-profit works from the inside with two organizations: the Coalition for Smarter Growth (CSG) and the Montgomery Countryside Alliance (MCA).
Responsibilities:
- Assisting with the development of materials such as donor letters, invitations, event programs;
- Organizing mailings of fundraising material;
- Assist with database entry and data clean up;
- Coordinating fundraising events: logistics, program and speakers, attendees, follow-up;
- Coordinate logistics for MCA’s upcoming 5% Day at Whole Foods; and
- Assist colleagues with program support.
Background: CSG has been an advocate of community oriented development since 1997. CSG addresses the Washington, DC region’s key issues of where and how to grow. Our mission is to ensure that transportation and development decisions are made with genuine community participation and allow the region to accommodate growth while revitalizing communities, providing more housing and travel choices, and conserving our natural and historic areas. CSG was founded as and remains the central coordinating agent and voice of smart growth in Metropolitan Washington. Our goals include: focusing investment in towns and around transit stations; increasing transportation and housing choices; and ensuring vibrant neighborhoods, open space, agricultural lands and natural areas.
MCA was started in 2001 in response to a proposal for a second bridge crossing across the Potomac River which threatened the nationally-acclaimed Agricultural Reserve. Since then, MCA has become the leading organization tracking the land use and transportation policies impacting the Agricultural Reserve. MCA also educates residents about the benefits and importance of farmland and rural open space. The work of MCA is closely integrated with the work of CSG, and both often partner together to determine how and where our region should grow. MCA staff work from CSG’s office and participate in many CSG staff activities.
Qualifications: Applicants should have an interest in smart growth, planning and/or rural issues and strong communication and organizational skills. Experience with fundraising and/or event planning is a plus.

This internship will start as soon as it is filled and will continue through to early August. Hours are flexible and will range from 15-30 hours per week.
