About the Event
This yearly event is the one of the best gatherings of the D.C. region's smart growth community and helps us raise the resources we need to keep working to improve our region. Guests enjoyed hors d'oeuvres, wine tastings from local Fabbioli Cellars, and a great mix of the region's most connected and passionate leaders. The award ceremony and reception was held at the National Trust for Historic Preservation in Washington, D.C.
Our 9th annual Livable Communities Leadership Award was presented to Evan Goldman for his effective implementation of vibrant, walkable transit-oriented communities in the White Flint area of Montgomery County. We also presented our second annual Sanders-Henn Community Hero Award to Roger Diedrich, Smart Growth and Transportation Chair of the Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club.
About Evan Goldman
We are pleased to honor Evan Goldman for his outstanding leadership in the creation of the White Flint Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) plan and the White Flint Partnership in Montgomery County, Maryland.
Uniting and leading a consortium of developers, Evan was the driving force in shaping and winning approval for a plan that will transform one of the region's most chronically auto-dependent commercial corridors into a livable, walkable, transit-oriented community.
Engaging the best smart growth consultants and advisors, Evan ensured a plan that includes a pedestrian friendly network of streets, conversion of Rockville Pike into a boulevard with a new transitway and mixed-use, new urbanist design standards. He has set a new standard and a model for developer outreach to the community, for public education on smart growth, and for transparency and inclusion.
