MetroRail

Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority's Metrorail transit system, commonly known as "Metro", is the 2nd largest in the nation and serves 900,000 passengers a day.

The benefits of Metrorail include reducing regional traffic and congestion, providing commuters with transportation options and giving riders some time to relax on their commute. In fiscal year 2002, 181 million people rode Metro and ridership continues to increase. Metrorail now carries over 20% of rush hour trips in the region and 40% in the District's downtown core.

New MetroRail Projects
WMATA is currently  working on several expansion projects. When these projects are completed, the system will run a total of 106 miles and consist of 86 stations.
