Transit
in Northern Virginia
Bus and rail systems play an important role in Northern Virginian
transportation. Most state transportation funds, however, pay for expensive road
projects instead of expanding and improving the existing transit infrastructure.
Bus
There are a variety of local and commuter bus services in Northern Virginia including
the DASH Bus (Alexandria Transit), ART (Arlington Transit), CUE Bus (City of Fairfax),
GEORGE (City of Falls Church), Loudoun County Commuter Bus Service, PRTC/OmniRide/OmniLink
(Prince William County) and TAGS Bus (Springfield).
Rail
The Virginia Railway Express (VRE) and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit
Authority (WMATA) MetroRail both bring rail service to Northern Virginia.
