Water Quality in the D.C. Region

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is the Federal Organization responsible for regulating water quality in our region (Region III). EPA Region III and its partner state pollution control agencies are responsible for regulating more than 12,000 water pollution sources in our area, which excludes many other unregulatable sources. Unfortunately, water pollution is a major concern in the area, as industry, farms, and sprawl continue to negatively impact the health of our waterways.

The Potomac, the Anacostia, the Chesapeake Bay, and dozens of other local rivers and tributaries are valuable resources to the DC region for their natural beauty, biological diversity, economic importance, and cultural significance. As the demand for new developments continue to increase, so does the threat to waterways in our region. The Coalition is dedicated to initiatives that protect our waterways, and ensure a livable Potomac, Anacostia and Chesapeake.
