Take
Action – Keep 25,000+ Jobs Near Metro
The Defense Department has
announced dramatic proposals to move offices---with tens of thousands of local
workers---from the District and Arlington, VA to dispersed, suburban locations
like Fort Meade in Maryland and Fort Belvoir in Virginia. These proposals would
dramatically reshape the National Capital region. By uprooting federal employees,
contractors and their families, the moves would undo decades of regional planning
and set a dangerous precedent for other agencies.
Moving these jobs away from
Metro would put thousands more cars on already congested roads. The inner suburbs
and DC would also be left to cope with the loss of local business as the agencies
and associated consultants and contractors make the move outward.
The independent Base
Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC) is taking comment and will provide
their comments on the Defense department’s proposal by September 8th.

Sample Message: I’m concerned with the proposal to relocated tens
of thousands of federal workers from Crystal City and the traffic impact
it would have. Please find a way to improve security for our federal offices
while maintaining the integrity of our Nation’s Capital region, and
without disrupting decades of planning for our communities and our families.

2 . Send your comments to your members of Congress and call them
to let them know you want them to tell the Commission to find ways to protect
our federal offices that don’t require federal workers, contractors
and their families and communities to bear the costs. We need to keep federal
agency offices, and the private companies that service them, in locations
with the infrastructure to support them: in DC and the inner suburbs.
