Reinventing
Tysons Corner as a Great Place
Your participation in the Tysons Corner re-planning and redesign process is essential. Active public involvement will ensure that we make Tysons Corner a better place to live, work and enjoy. We will update our site with helpful information throughout year long process.

For those interested in community
planning and design, you can learn a great deal from posted material
about recent community planning efforts for Tysons Corner and
the City of Fairfax. Over 300 people rolled up their sleeves
for the six planning and design sessions for Tysons Corner. They
dealt varying scenarios for mixed-use, street networks, public
spaces and density. |
What is
the redesign of Tysons Corner about?
A more livable, walkable
Tysons Corner is not just a dream. Check out the design factors below
to spark your thinking about what you may want to ask for at the
workshops.
STREETS

The new Tysons
Corner must have streets that are inviting and safe for pedestrians
and bicyclists, while effectively handling traffic. This means an
extensive, well-connected grid of local streets. |
BUILDINGS

The
design of a building can make or break a great place. How
a building and its windows and doors interact with the public
space - the sidewalk and the street - is critical. |
PUBLIC
SPACES

Great places
are remembered for their public spaces, parks, and plazas.
The new Tysons Corner should be planned to include great public
spaces for our community. |
MIX
OF USES

When we envision
a new Tysons Corner, we think of a vibrant place integrating
commercial, retail, residential, and civic uses. It should
include distinctive civic buildings including a post office,
churces, government center, theatres, and music halls. |
TRANSIT

Transit,
including subway and bus, must be accessible, convenient, and
efficient. A circulator bus network AND new transit connections
into Tysons along key entry roads will be important. |
PARKING

Land that
is currently allocated for large parking lots needs to be better
used. Too much free parking will mean too many people driving
to Tysons Corner. |
