Be a part of preserving Alexandria’s affordable housing

Alexandria’s Office of Housing is requesting feedback on its draft Affordable Housing Preservation Recommendations and Strategies as part of the city’s Housing 2040 initiative. Help ensure the city has a strong preservation strategy by providing your input before the January 4th deadline.

Why preservation?

Preserving our existing stock of both committed and naturally occurring affordable housing is one of the most important ways we can maintain progress towards ensuring homes for all. In Alexandria and throughout the region, rent prices have far outpaced income growth. Housing that was previously affordable has become increasingly unattainable to both low- and mid-income households, and Alexandria is rapidly losing both committed affordable homes as well as market rate homes attainable to those making 60% of the area median income.  You can make a difference in how the city approaches this problem by responding to the Housing 2040 survey of draft recommendations and strategies for affordable housing preservation. We strongly support the direction the city is taking with these recommendations, and encourage you to share your thoughts on the specific strategies.  For more information, you can visit Alexandria’s Housing 2040 Master Plan site, where you will find a recent presentation on the plan’s recommendations. Don’t forget to respond to the survey by January 4th.
