Help shape the future of Duke Street

There are two opportunities for you to speak up for a more vibrant, walkable, and inclusive Duke Street as the city updates its Duke Street Land Use Plan. Take the online survey on the draft Guiding Principles by the Oct 23 deadline and attend the upcoming Oct 23 community meeting that will focus on housing, mobility, and safety.

Duke Street Land Use Plan Community Meeting #3
Housing – Mobility – Safety
October 23, 7-8:30 pm
Patrick Henry Recreation Center (4653 Taney Ave)

The Duke Street Land Use Plan will guide future redevelopment, housing, mobility, and public spaces along Duke Street from west of Old Town to Landmark and the West End. It will also complement plans for bus rapid transit (BRT) in the corridor, also known as Duke Street in Motion, approved in 2023.

City staff are currently seeking input on its Draft Guiding Principles for the Duke Street Land Use Plan via the online survey through Oct 23. The principles will provide a framework for the plan and will inform strategies, concepts, and the Plan’s recommendations. While the draft Guiding Principles overall are good, they should also include placemaking, community gathering spaces, retention of small businesses, and focusing homes and amenities near planned BRT stations. You can review the draft principles and provide your feedback here

The next community meeting on the plan update will be on Oct 23 and will focus on housing, mobility, and safety. Please attend to learn more, talk with staff, and share your thoughts on what is needed for a more vibrant, walkable, and inclusive Duke Street – including more housing options tied to transit. There is also a Zoom option if you’re unable to attend in person.

This is an important opportunity to plan for a Duke Street with more homes and transit options, better biking and walking, and community hubs around future BRT stops with shopping and neighborhood amenities. Get involved and share your thoughts!

Thanks for all that you do!
