The ICC is a proposed 18-mile, $3.1 billion highway between I-270 in Montgomery County and I-95 / US 1 in Prince George's County. This highway would spark sprawling development, and shift jobs and investment away from Prince George's county and DC. It would destroy thousands of acres of the last remaining forests and streams in central Montgomery. Three studies by the State Highway Administration have shown that the ICC would not relieve congestion on I-95, I-270, and the Beltway, and would increase traffic on many local roads.
Moreover, the ICC is part of a push by some developers and big businesses to build other portions of an Outer Beltway, including a twelfth Potomac River crossing. The highway undermines Governor O'Malley's goals to Save the Bay and fight Global Climate Change and we urge him to cancel this highway.
