TAKE ACTION: Don’t forget to support accessory dwellings today!

Fairfax County is in the final stretch of updating its Accessory Living Unit (ALU) regulations, and the county needs to hear from supporters before making their final decisions. If you haven’t had a chance yet, please take two minutes today to urge county leaders to pass strong, sensible ALU reforms!

Changes we need to see:
  • Remove minimum lot size for detached ALUs.
  • Remove mandatory parking requirements.
  • Allow standard-compliant ALUs to be approved by-right, eliminating the need for separate zoning administrative permits.
  • Drop owner-occupancy requirements.
  • Permit at least three occupants per unit.
Tell your story!

Personal stories drive real policy change. If living in a backyard cottage, basement suite, or garage conversion helped you save money, support a family member, or live closer to work, adding a sentence or two about your experience makes a huge difference.
