From Woodley Park to Friendship Heights, DC's Ward 3 boasts plenty of great neighborhoods. However, several of its commercial strips are not fulfilling their potential as lively places. We believe that these sections can be transformed through well-planned redevelopment, and still preserve nearby quiet neighborhoods. A good built environment brings important community benefits like housing choices, local retail like bookstores and cafes and an inviting streetscape. New housing, be it rentals, condos or townhouses, will attract a diverse set of people. These could include empty-nesters and young professionals who want to live in the city near transit, as well as people who already live in the neighborhood and are thinking of switching to a smaller place.
Ward 3 Vision is a campaign partnership of Ward 3 residents and the Coalition for Smarter Growth. We work to involve more community members in supporting well-designed development. If done right, new development can create the kind of community many residents want.
