CSG Comments to VDOT/VDRPT on 495 Southside Express Lanes NEPA Study
The Coalition for Smarter Growth appreciates the efforts of the Virginia Department of Transportation
(VDOT) and the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (VDRPT) to improve mobility
within the I-495 corridor between Springfield and Maryland. However, to truly address the needs of the
study area communities on either side of the Woodrow Wilson bridge and the metropolitan region,
VDOT will need to take a broader and more holistic approach consistent with the National
Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

Thrive is popular! A new poll shows that Thrive has a majority of support from likely Democratic voters in Montgomery County, with the strongest support from Black and African American residents, people under 45, and renters. A total of 55% of survey respondents were in support, with only 21% opposed.
ACTION: Help the residents of Culmore in Baileys Crossroads win a safer Route 7
Overwhelmingly, residents living in the Culmore neighborhood of Bailey’s Crossroads feel unsafe walking and biking along Route 7, according to a walkability survey conducted by CSG and immigrant advocacy organization CASA.
