Montgomery County, MD – For the 2026 election cycle, the Coalition for Smarter Growth and Montgomery for All have compiled responses from registered candidates for Montgomery County Executive and County Council, offering insight into their positions on housing affordability, zoning, transit, biking, walking, and community engagement.
The responses are publicly available to help inform voters ahead of the primary election on June 23, 2026, and the general election on November 3, 2026.
For many Montgomery County voters, understanding where candidates stand on housing, zoning, transit, and safer streets for biking and walking is critical, said Bill Pugh, Transportation & Climate Director at the Coalition for Smarter Growth underscores the importance of focusing on these key issues, noting:
“Montgomery County has had 13 pedestrians and cyclists seriously injured by car crashes and three pedestrians killed just from January to March of this year. Residents also face rising gas and vehicle costs. They should know how their elected leaders will prioritize safer walking and biking and better transit.”
The Coalition for Smarter Growth and Montgomery for All encourage residents to review the responses and engage in the upcoming elections.
“The responses to the Montgomery for All questionnaire are both an insight into where candidates stand and also the myriad issues around the housing crisis facing the region. Regardless of the election outcomes, this information will prove valuable to both voters and lawmakers as they grapple with new policy debates in the future,” says Carter Dougherty, Montgomery for All steering committee member.
